Free Consent Mode v2 checker: does your site respect the choice?

A browser visits your site before a cookie choice, after accepting and after rejecting. You see what every tag sends in each case, and whether Google's consent signals change the way they should.

No sign-in, nothing to install. We never submit a form or place an order.

Consent Mode covers Google's tags. Not the rest.

Consent Mode changes how Google's tags behave after a visitor chooses. Meta, TikTok, Microsoft and other pixels need their own consent setting in Tag Manager or in the app that loads them. Consent Mode checkers usually read Google's signals only. This one watches every tag.

    What it shows

    • What fires before a choice

Every tag that sends data before the visitor has chosen.

    • What keeps going after a reject

Ad and analytics tags that still send after a visitor rejects.

    • Google's consent signals

Consent Mode's default and its update on Google's requests, before and after each choice.

    • A reject option

Whether the banner offers a reject choice the visit can find.

    • Which banner you use

OneTrust, Cookiebot, Usercentrics, Didomi, CookieYes, iubenda, Shopify's privacy banner and others.

    • Proof the choice took effect

An "after accepting" or "after rejecting" column appears only when we can see the choice took effect.

    How we visit your site

A real browser opens your home page, a category, a product, the cart and the checkout. On a lead site it opens a service page and the contact page instead. It never submits a form or places an order.

When a cookie banner shows, it visits three times: before a choice, after accepting and after rejecting. It makes each choice through your consent tool's own settings where it can, otherwise by its buttons, and reports on a choice only when it can see it took effect.

Some sites turn automated browsers away. When that happens, the report says so and checks what it can from your home page's code.

    Where we visit from

Our browser visits from the United States. If your banner only shows to visitors in the EU or the UK, the report will say no banner showed, and will show what your tags do for a visitor outside those regions. Run the Tag Manager audit to check the consent setting on each tag directly, wherever your visitors are.

    What it can't see

    • Your banner as an EU visitor sees it, when it only shows there (above).
    • What your server does after the choice, such as server-side tags.
    • Whether your setup meets the law where your visitors are. The check shows what your tags do with each choice. It isn't legal advice.

    What you get

Your grade and the top three findings straight away. Add your email for every finding, the tags seen in each consent state, and a PDF, Excel and CSV. The report and its link are kept for 90 days, and you can delete them sooner.

    Common questions

How do I check if Consent Mode v2 is working?

Enter your website above. The check visits before a choice, after accepting and after rejecting, and shows whether Google's consent signals start as denied and change when the visitor accepts, and which other tags keep sending after a reject.

Does Consent Mode cover my Meta Pixel?

No. Consent Mode only changes how Google's tags behave. Other pixels need their own consent setting, in Tag Manager (Additional Consent Checks) or in the app that loads them.

My banner only shows in the EU. Will this check see it?

Not yet. We visit from the United States, so a banner shown only to EU visitors won't appear, and the report says so. The Tag Manager audit checks the consent setting on every tag, wherever your visitors are.

Which consent tools does it work with?

It makes the choice through the tool's own settings for OneTrust, Cookiebot, Usercentrics, Didomi, CookieYes and Shopify's Customer Privacy API. For other banners it uses the banner's buttons, in English, German, French and Dutch.

If my site passes, is it compliant?

The check shows what your tags do with each choice. Whether that meets the rules depends on where your visitors are, and it isn't legal advice.

    Can I check a site I don't own?

Yes. The check only sees what any visitor's browser sees.

    Fix it in Tag Manager

The free Tag Manager audit lists every tag without a consent setting, by name, and checks Consent Mode's default on Consent Initialization.
